How Practising acceptance can make you live a better life.

I recently lost a cousin of mine, it hurt and the saddest thing about it was the fact that he was young and he had his whole life ahead of him. May his soul rest in peace.

I have also gone through disappointments that seemed like a loss, put my blood and sweat into something that turned out to be a total mess.

I know that in this journey of life I will probably go through more disappointments, more losses, that will turn my life upside down and make me feel like giving up.

But here is the thing, I don’t want to give up in life, I don’t want to be miserable by resisting what is. I don’t want to be get frustrated when plans change or when the bus arrived late or when the relationship that I had invested a lot in, didn’t work out.

I also don’t want to be this bitter and hateful woman just because I have met people who didn’t treat as well as I expected them to. Those people who were mean to me for no reason, when I was powerless and couldn’t do a thing about it.

I remember getting frustrated when I applied for jobs then not hear from the Human resource weeks later or when plans changed suddenly. But not anymore. I realized that resisting never changed anything.

So I started accepting things as they are, I accepted that I don’t have the power over life, and that it is not permanent. The people in my life will someday die and I will too but life goes on. I also can’t control how other people treat me, it’s their loss that they miss out on connecting with a great person. I have also accepted the fact that I am not where I want to be (career wise) and am doing something about it.

Ultimately I have accepted myself for who I am, my small apartment, my average-paying job, my tiny-short self, my awesomely large family., just everything. And now so passionate about life, I wouldn’t have it any other way. So,

1.Accept yourself first
Start by accepting yourself, with your flaws and especially what you can’t change. Then accept the relationship or that marriage that didn’t work out; accept that you are not as financially capable as you would want to be then do something about it; also accept that you lost a loved one and that you are sad but life has got to move on.

2.Relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering
Come to terms with the fact that life will not always go as planned and accept whatever happened to relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering. Practicing acceptance will help you adjust to the new situation without fuelling it with negative emotions which may lead to stress and depression in the long run. #Life Lessons.

7 Ways to Embrace and Love Life

1.Stay motivated
Love life and be passionate about it, work hard, read books and try to learn something new every day. Having high levels of motivation and enthusiasm especially in the Face of challenges will make you strong enough to handle anything that comes your way.

2.Be positive.
Don’t beat yourself down by thinking that you are not good enough, substitute that negative thought with a positive one. Stay hopeful because having positive expectations attracts positive outcomes. Believe in yourself, and know that you are good enough, you are beautiful enough and you will be.

3.Make time for yourself
Do what makes you happy, go shopping, swimming and spend time with your loved ones, the ones that make you feel wanted and good about yourself; take lots of pictures if that is what you love to do and don’t worry so much about the future because if you do what you can , the best way you know how to then everything will fall into place.

4.Don’t rely on external validation
Be different, unique and confident don’t rely on other people to make you feel good about yourself. Am not into fashion, shoes, and I don’t take hours in the mirror trying to fix my make up or take 1001 photos and post them on social media in order to be validated. Not that is a bad thing to do but I wouldn’t want to live my life trying to please other people or conforming to standards.

5.Accept that you are not perfect
Love yourself, embrace your flaws  and walk around like you don’t care who owns the world. Am not perfect physically and I will never try to be, for instance am of average height, I have tiny curves and I break out once in a while which is okay for me. I have embraced my imperfections and I don’t need someone to rate me or make me feel good about myself because I love me.  DONT be anyone’s expectations.

6.Live up to your standards
Try and live up to your standards, you don’t have to have everything in order to be happy. Honestly wanting something that you can’t have often makes you miserable. I have a few pairs of affordable shoes, and enough clothes. I don’t really spend money on extravagant designer shoes or handbags, and I don’t feel pressured to have those, but I definitely will when I can afford them.

7.Do not compare yourself to others
Don’t try to compare or compete with other people. The only person that you should compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday because at the end of the day it’s hard to please everyone. Those who love you for who you are the ones who truly deserve you, so don’t try so hard.

If You did all you could, Stop beating yourself up.

Sometimes things don’t always turn out the way we expect them to even when you did everything right.

You sit for an easy exam and you still fail, you tend to your sick relative and they still die, you care so much about someone but they still don’t love you. You do your best at work but you don’t get that promotion. What do you do?

It’s easy to take a victim mentality during such times, or blame yourself. I have been there before, failed this job test that was so important to me. Honestly I felt bad, worn out and didn’t feel like trying again incase such an opportunity presented itself. For a few days all I could think about was that I should have been better or put in more effort.

Just before I drowned myself in self-pity, I remembered that I did my best. I practiced enough. It wasn’t good enough according to them but that was my best and if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t do it differently.

Do everything to the best of your ability, read hard, love hard, work hard that way you won’t regret if things don’t turn out the way you expected them to. You will remember the blood and sweat you put into it, but don’t give yourself a chance to regret or feel worthless.

Honestly you couldn’t have done it better, you couldn’t have worked any harder, and you couldn’t have been a better partner.

I don’t regret failing my job test, nor do i feel bad about it because I gave it my all.

So before you feel bad, worthless or think that you have bad luck .Ask yourself this: Did you do your best to save the situation? If yes, then there is nothing more you could have done, you are not superman or God. It was out of your control. Don’t beat yourself up.

Most of your fears never come to Pass

I am a true daughter of my mother. She worries a lot about anything and everything. The present the future, even the past sometimes.

Before I got a job she was worried that I wouldn’t get one, and now that I have one she is worried that one day I will lose it (God forbid) but as much as bad things are bound to happen good things will happen too(like getting a much better job, or starting my own business).

She always sees the bad in a situation. And when asked why she claims that by expecting the bad, she will get to enjoy the experience of being surprised by the good .I love her to death but I just don’t think that, this is the best approach to life.

Bad times outweigh the good times but if we sit around waiting for the bad times we will never get to enjoy the good times.

The future is uncertain, that’s obvious and that is what makes us worry so much about it. But looking back at all the things I was worried about most of them never came to pass and if they did I totally could handle them without breaking a leg.

Why should we always expect the worst, then put ourselves through the trauma, yet at the end of the day it may or may never come to pass?

The worst thing that can happen to anyone is dying, or so I think. We will all die one day and the worst part of it is that we don’t know when. That however, hasn’t  stopped us from chasing our goals and dreams. We struggle every day to make ends meet yet we are not assured of tomorrow.

My point is , that there is no point in worrying about the future . One thing I discovered is that half the things we worry about or are afraid of never come to pass and if they do no matter how difficult we always come out of it.

Be fair to yourself and your health, don’t worry too much because there is always a way or better yet your fears may never come to pass.
