How I get over Hard Times

It’s just one of those days.

The ones that you feel like the whole world is crumbling down on you. You just don’t have any joy you are sad, worried and stressed.

You try to make things right. Then end up feeling bad for not being positive or not having the hope that things will get better.

But you have been trying to hold on, be hopeful and tell yourself that it will all pass and that somehow things will work out but it’s been a while and they haven’t. You don’t even see the light at the of the tunnel.

I have been there and quite frankly most of us have.

Its 3am and no sleep, I have been tossing and turning in my bed for hours. Worried of what tomorrow may bring, and thinking that I haven’t done enough to make my situation better when deep down I know that I have.

I need to talk to someone really badly, tell them how I feel without being judged. Tell them my aspirations without them thinking that am too ambitious, talk to them in the hope that they will feel what I am feeling on the inside.

I want that someone to tell me that am going to be okay but I probably won’t believe them, I want them to sympathize and assure me that am justified to feel the way am feeling because I have too much on my plate..,but then again I might think that they are being negative which will make me feel worse..,so I write.

I take a pen and start journaling. I write my pain and take it all out on that piece of paper. Its writing that helped me get through the tough times and it’s still does.

So I write everything, my troubles, my triumphs, and most especially the things that am grateful for. I then finish with how I am going to deal with my fixable troubles and let go of the ones I cannot fix.

I also never forget to remind myself just how strong I am and that I can handle every life hurdle that comes my way. Just the same way I have handled the ones in the past. That I will get up whenever I fall, and still hope for better times.

Before you know it,am up again happy with full of life ready to fight, ready to see just yet another day. Feeling like a conqueror.#Life Lessons

12 Ways to Set Yourself Up for Success in Your 20’s

1.The people you hang around with and the friends you keep will influence your life more than you think.  So hang around people who have goals/ambitions/dreams that they want to pursue, irrespective of what they are.

2.If and when you can develop a stream of income to help when things are not working out with your job search.

3.Focus heavily on career-related stuff than extracurricular. It’s way easier when you focus on stuff that matters

4.Fitness is very important. Work out and eat right, because sitting and drinking all day will destroy you. Not only will this make you look better, you will feel better and boost your confidence.

5.Don’t shy away from decisions just because you are tired. If you get an opportunity that needs you to relocate, do it.

6.Stop doing the same thing while expecting different results, that’s insanity. If you want to go far, learn new skills, go an extra mile. You can’t do what everyone else is doing and expect something to come your way

7.Stop trying too hard to appear cool to other people. That's the most uncool thing to do. Just Be yourself, as long as you are not hurting anyone.

8.Don’t be a pain in the ass. Treat strangers with respect, don't intentionally try to hurt someone else, and stop thinking you're superior to someone just because you have something that they don't.

9.Have good interpersonal skills. Know how to interact with people in a social setting. Interpersonal skills coupled with intelligence will make you a persuasive, hard to turn down kind of person who will thrive in any condition

10.Expand your knowledge and boost your resume, to enhance your credibility.  Read too and stay informed. Reading will boost your intellect, writing skills, and conversational savvy.

11.Lose the ego, it’s not attractive. It will make you lose opportunities and fail to connect with people who may help you get ahead.

12. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it, academic or otherwise. There is no shame in trying to make things better

How Practising acceptance can make you live a better life.

I recently lost a cousin of mine, it hurt and the saddest thing about it was the fact that he was young and he had his whole life ahead of him. May his soul rest in peace.

I have also gone through disappointments that seemed like a loss, put my blood and sweat into something that turned out to be a total mess.

I know that in this journey of life I will probably go through more disappointments, more losses, that will turn my life upside down and make me feel like giving up.

But here is the thing, I don’t want to give up in life, I don’t want to be miserable by resisting what is. I don’t want to be get frustrated when plans change or when the bus arrived late or when the relationship that I had invested a lot in, didn’t work out.

I also don’t want to be this bitter and hateful woman just because I have met people who didn’t treat as well as I expected them to. Those people who were mean to me for no reason, when I was powerless and couldn’t do a thing about it.

I remember getting frustrated when I applied for jobs then not hear from the Human resource weeks later or when plans changed suddenly. But not anymore. I realized that resisting never changed anything.

So I started accepting things as they are, I accepted that I don’t have the power over life, and that it is not permanent. The people in my life will someday die and I will too but life goes on. I also can’t control how other people treat me, it’s their loss that they miss out on connecting with a great person. I have also accepted the fact that I am not where I want to be (career wise) and am doing something about it.

Ultimately I have accepted myself for who I am, my small apartment, my average-paying job, my tiny-short self, my awesomely large family., just everything. And now so passionate about life, I wouldn’t have it any other way. So,

1.Accept yourself first
Start by accepting yourself, with your flaws and especially what you can’t change. Then accept the relationship or that marriage that didn’t work out; accept that you are not as financially capable as you would want to be then do something about it; also accept that you lost a loved one and that you are sad but life has got to move on.

2.Relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering
Come to terms with the fact that life will not always go as planned and accept whatever happened to relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering. Practicing acceptance will help you adjust to the new situation without fuelling it with negative emotions which may lead to stress and depression in the long run. #Life Lessons.

How to overcome the Fear of rejection and Disappointments

I did something, something that made me lose sleep for the better part of the night. Failing scares the buh-Jesus out of me.

I dared to dream, I actually put myself out there when every fiber of my being was telling me that am not good enough, that I don’t have what it takes to make it like the others.

The realization that I do care what others thought about me totally caught me off guard. I actually would care if anyone thought that I wasn’t up to the task when deep down I knew that I have what it takes. I would care more if someone judged my ability without giving me the chance to prove myself.

It was so obvious that I didn’t have a bunch of years of experience but I still did it, in pursuit of my dream job. As simple as it sounds, what I did got me out of my comfort zone.

For a moment there I got paralyzed with fear, uncertainty, and lots of what ifs? What if they thought that am not good enough? What if they laughed behind my back at how naïve I am? What if they look me in the eye and tell me that I don’t have what it takes? What if they think that am too young? I was losing my mind.

Amidst my worries I remembered two of my favorite quotes:

"Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear" Brian Tracy

“In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationship we are afraid to have and the decisions we waited too long to make”

I don’t want to be a statistic; I don’t want to be counted among those people who never took the chance to fulfill their dreams. That’s why I stopped feeling like crap for having the courage to do the extra ordinary. I realized that it won’t hurt to try and I also didn’t want to look back a few years later and regret. I did a good thing, a bold one at that; not everyone would.

Then I thought to myself that if I get it good, if I don’t I will keep trying and maybe even get a better opportunity because I have finally grown some balls and faced my fears.

Don’t overthink it, do it. Apply for that job, that tender, start that business, vie for that political sit and go after that girl or guy that you have always liked. Do what you have to, but don’t let the fear of being rejected or disappointed get between you and your goals. If you do, you may never forgive yourself; if you don’t try you may never know what would have come of it; and if you don’t make mistakes you may never learn.

What to do.
Silence that little negative voice in your head because you are capable. But how would you know that you are?? You haven’t even tried! # Life Lessons.

Here’s how you are sabotaging your future in your 20’s (and how to stop)

Some people were born with a silver spoon in their mouth while others had to struggle through every point and stage in their lives: being sent home for school fees frequently and accumulating thousands of shillings in student loan through college, and that’s just life. It is what it is and you have to survive. But What did you learn from that?? Do you want to live the same way? Do you want your kids to go through the same financial struggles? I hope not.

I look around me and see a lost generation. A generation that has not learnt from past experiences, a generation that is financially illiterate. You want to live and depend on a monthly paycheck without savings. You feel the need to live like a celebrity when you clearly can’t afford it. You don’t want to go an extra mile and make a budget. You don’t even try to equip yourself with the necessary financial knowledge that will help end the cycle of poverty. You spend most of your salary in partying/fooling around, what the hell are you celebrating every week? is your life that awesome?

Get out of that mediocre thinking and start making change while you are still young and vibrant.

See I know a thing or two about paychecks, the money barely lasts for two weeks. A few night outs with your “friends”, some shopping and voila! You are broke, and your friends are nowhere to be seen. You even ask for advance salary payment. Payday comes again and the cycle continues. Sad, right??It’s not too late to change though, learn how to manage your finances and get acquainted with the various investment options over the internet and choose what’s best for you.

Personally, I draw inspiration from many people but the most special person I do that from is my 14-year-old sister. She has been saving since she was 10 years and no amount of temptation would make her spend her savings. She has been putting aside part of lunch money, cash awards received at school and now with more than 20k in her jumbo junior account she baffles me. She makes me believe that haba na haba hujaza kibaba. Now you know that you don’t have to be making a lot to start saving and investing, you can start small and smile your way to financial freedom.

Just remember that for every Shilling/Dollar that you save, you are buying yourself Freedom. The Freedom to stay home with your kids, the freedom to retire and travel around the world, or the freedom to quit your job. That source of income you have right now will make it possible for you to start building wealth today. Think about it.

Do your future-self a favor and Start by making a budget and sticking to it. This way you will know how to manage your debts, expenses and Keep track of your assets. # Life lessons

Lessons learnt from High school

Time has really flown and things have changed; I have changed(tremendously).

It Only seems like yesterday when I was in high school, half a decade ago to be exact. I remember being shy and naïve, didn’t really know much about life, so innocent, so pure. Since then my eyes have seen a lot and my heart has felt more, that which has made me who I am today.

All that seemed to matter back then was how rich your parents were and how physically attractive one seemed to be. I can’t believe we were that shallow.

I remember this one time a classmate decided to rank all of us in terms of how good looking we were, and surprisingly only Three of my classmates (including her) made it to the list. The rest of us were …well nowhere. She didn’t last a year after that, she ultimately became the most hated girl in the class, you know what they say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned or in this case a teenage girl.

It always seemed like the prettiest girl in the class had it easy, getting all the attention from the teachers, boys, prefects which made them very ‘popular’ back then. Then the kid with the rich folks had lots of fake friends who seemed to worship her .

Am all grown up now, and my priorities are very different from what they used to be. In fact, I don’t even think the pretty popular kids were as attractive as I thought them to be.  Am not hating though, I just see things differently, my definition of attractive is different now. Am seeing it from a mature point of view. :)

Being attractive depends on how you see yourself and Girl dont put yourself down, you are beautiful and so am I.Oh well who am I kidding?? sometimes I feel like a 10 sometimes a 2, and most times I just dont care. I however don’t try to be something am not and neither should you.

Get to know yourself and be comfortable with who you are. Embrace life, Be happy and live by your own rules. Also know what you really want in life. For me, I want peace of mind, health, a stable relationship, love and growth: career growth, spiritual growth and emotional growth. I want to understand life and take it as it comes, I also want to make a difference, to inspire and give hope to someone. #Life Lessons

How to find Joy within the things you already have.

I can’t say that I have everything I want right now, but I can’t complain either I think life has been generous to me. I don’t have a car, expensive jewelry and designer clothes, nothing like that but I have enough and that’s okay for now. I know there are people in worse situations than mine and I continue to pray for them.

Great Things Take Time. Be Patient
Don’t get me wrong though I want to have the best things that life has to offer, everyone does, but I am taking my time, because I have to start from somewhere. I don’t want to be greedy or get to where I want to be in the wrong way, like by getting myself a ‘sponsor’ or posting nude pics on the internet. (Let’s face it I don’t even have the body for that but even if I did, I wouldn’t:)

I will definitely get there because I take every opportunity to learn, work hard and be good at what I do. That is what wakes me up in the morning: the chance to be better than the person I was the previous day.
Be grateful for what you have
One thing for sure is that I am happy where I am right now. I appreciate the little things that I have, my small apartment(rented), simple second hand clothes, I few pairs of shoes. I don’t feel ashamed to acknowledge what I have, and I honestly don’t care what anyone else would think of me. Am not competing with anyone, just me.

Do not postpone happiness
Once I realized that postponing being happy thinking that I can be happy later when I have lots of wealth and material possessions was a waste of time, I began being comfortable in my own skin. I became happier, grateful, confident and full of life. Am probably happier than that person who is wealthy and doesn’t even have time to spend his money because he is busy looking for more wealth.

You are only as happy as you want to be
Do not end up miserable chasing material things in the thought that they will make you happy when they won’t. That car or house that you want so bad will never bring you happiness because you will keep on wanting more and more every day. A better model will come and you will still want that too so be happy with what you have and where you are because if you are not you never be. Happiness is an inside Job. #Life Lessons

Most of your fears never come to Pass

I am a true daughter of my mother. She worries a lot about anything and everything. The present the future, even the past sometimes.

Before I got a job she was worried that I wouldn’t get one, and now that I have one she is worried that one day I will lose it (God forbid) but as much as bad things are bound to happen good things will happen too(like getting a much better job, or starting my own business).

She always sees the bad in a situation. And when asked why she claims that by expecting the bad, she will get to enjoy the experience of being surprised by the good .I love her to death but I just don’t think that, this is the best approach to life.

Bad times outweigh the good times but if we sit around waiting for the bad times we will never get to enjoy the good times.

The future is uncertain, that’s obvious and that is what makes us worry so much about it. But looking back at all the things I was worried about most of them never came to pass and if they did I totally could handle them without breaking a leg.

Why should we always expect the worst, then put ourselves through the trauma, yet at the end of the day it may or may never come to pass?

The worst thing that can happen to anyone is dying, or so I think. We will all die one day and the worst part of it is that we don’t know when. That however, hasn’t  stopped us from chasing our goals and dreams. We struggle every day to make ends meet yet we are not assured of tomorrow.

My point is , that there is no point in worrying about the future . One thing I discovered is that half the things we worry about or are afraid of never come to pass and if they do no matter how difficult we always come out of it.

Be fair to yourself and your health, don’t worry too much because there is always a way or better yet your fears may never come to pass.
