How I get over Hard Times

It’s just one of those days.

The ones that you feel like the whole world is crumbling down on you. You just don’t have any joy you are sad, worried and stressed.

You try to make things right. Then end up feeling bad for not being positive or not having the hope that things will get better.

But you have been trying to hold on, be hopeful and tell yourself that it will all pass and that somehow things will work out but it’s been a while and they haven’t. You don’t even see the light at the of the tunnel.

I have been there and quite frankly most of us have.

Its 3am and no sleep, I have been tossing and turning in my bed for hours. Worried of what tomorrow may bring, and thinking that I haven’t done enough to make my situation better when deep down I know that I have.

I need to talk to someone really badly, tell them how I feel without being judged. Tell them my aspirations without them thinking that am too ambitious, talk to them in the hope that they will feel what I am feeling on the inside.

I want that someone to tell me that am going to be okay but I probably won’t believe them, I want them to sympathize and assure me that am justified to feel the way am feeling because I have too much on my plate..,but then again I might think that they are being negative which will make me feel worse..,so I write.

I take a pen and start journaling. I write my pain and take it all out on that piece of paper. Its writing that helped me get through the tough times and it’s still does.

So I write everything, my troubles, my triumphs, and most especially the things that am grateful for. I then finish with how I am going to deal with my fixable troubles and let go of the ones I cannot fix.

I also never forget to remind myself just how strong I am and that I can handle every life hurdle that comes my way. Just the same way I have handled the ones in the past. That I will get up whenever I fall, and still hope for better times.

Before you know it,am up again happy with full of life ready to fight, ready to see just yet another day. Feeling like a conqueror.#Life Lessons

How Practising acceptance can make you live a better life.

I recently lost a cousin of mine, it hurt and the saddest thing about it was the fact that he was young and he had his whole life ahead of him. May his soul rest in peace.

I have also gone through disappointments that seemed like a loss, put my blood and sweat into something that turned out to be a total mess.

I know that in this journey of life I will probably go through more disappointments, more losses, that will turn my life upside down and make me feel like giving up.

But here is the thing, I don’t want to give up in life, I don’t want to be miserable by resisting what is. I don’t want to be get frustrated when plans change or when the bus arrived late or when the relationship that I had invested a lot in, didn’t work out.

I also don’t want to be this bitter and hateful woman just because I have met people who didn’t treat as well as I expected them to. Those people who were mean to me for no reason, when I was powerless and couldn’t do a thing about it.

I remember getting frustrated when I applied for jobs then not hear from the Human resource weeks later or when plans changed suddenly. But not anymore. I realized that resisting never changed anything.

So I started accepting things as they are, I accepted that I don’t have the power over life, and that it is not permanent. The people in my life will someday die and I will too but life goes on. I also can’t control how other people treat me, it’s their loss that they miss out on connecting with a great person. I have also accepted the fact that I am not where I want to be (career wise) and am doing something about it.

Ultimately I have accepted myself for who I am, my small apartment, my average-paying job, my tiny-short self, my awesomely large family., just everything. And now so passionate about life, I wouldn’t have it any other way. So,

1.Accept yourself first
Start by accepting yourself, with your flaws and especially what you can’t change. Then accept the relationship or that marriage that didn’t work out; accept that you are not as financially capable as you would want to be then do something about it; also accept that you lost a loved one and that you are sad but life has got to move on.

2.Relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering
Come to terms with the fact that life will not always go as planned and accept whatever happened to relieve yourself from unnecessary suffering. Practicing acceptance will help you adjust to the new situation without fuelling it with negative emotions which may lead to stress and depression in the long run. #Life Lessons.

How to overcome the Fear of rejection and Disappointments

I did something, something that made me lose sleep for the better part of the night. Failing scares the buh-Jesus out of me.

I dared to dream, I actually put myself out there when every fiber of my being was telling me that am not good enough, that I don’t have what it takes to make it like the others.

The realization that I do care what others thought about me totally caught me off guard. I actually would care if anyone thought that I wasn’t up to the task when deep down I knew that I have what it takes. I would care more if someone judged my ability without giving me the chance to prove myself.

It was so obvious that I didn’t have a bunch of years of experience but I still did it, in pursuit of my dream job. As simple as it sounds, what I did got me out of my comfort zone.

For a moment there I got paralyzed with fear, uncertainty, and lots of what ifs? What if they thought that am not good enough? What if they laughed behind my back at how naïve I am? What if they look me in the eye and tell me that I don’t have what it takes? What if they think that am too young? I was losing my mind.

Amidst my worries I remembered two of my favorite quotes:

"Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear" Brian Tracy

“In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take, the relationship we are afraid to have and the decisions we waited too long to make”

I don’t want to be a statistic; I don’t want to be counted among those people who never took the chance to fulfill their dreams. That’s why I stopped feeling like crap for having the courage to do the extra ordinary. I realized that it won’t hurt to try and I also didn’t want to look back a few years later and regret. I did a good thing, a bold one at that; not everyone would.

Then I thought to myself that if I get it good, if I don’t I will keep trying and maybe even get a better opportunity because I have finally grown some balls and faced my fears.

Don’t overthink it, do it. Apply for that job, that tender, start that business, vie for that political sit and go after that girl or guy that you have always liked. Do what you have to, but don’t let the fear of being rejected or disappointed get between you and your goals. If you do, you may never forgive yourself; if you don’t try you may never know what would have come of it; and if you don’t make mistakes you may never learn.

What to do.
Silence that little negative voice in your head because you are capable. But how would you know that you are?? You haven’t even tried! # Life Lessons.

If You did all you could, Stop beating yourself up.

Sometimes things don’t always turn out the way we expect them to even when you did everything right.

You sit for an easy exam and you still fail, you tend to your sick relative and they still die, you care so much about someone but they still don’t love you. You do your best at work but you don’t get that promotion. What do you do?

It’s easy to take a victim mentality during such times, or blame yourself. I have been there before, failed this job test that was so important to me. Honestly I felt bad, worn out and didn’t feel like trying again incase such an opportunity presented itself. For a few days all I could think about was that I should have been better or put in more effort.

Just before I drowned myself in self-pity, I remembered that I did my best. I practiced enough. It wasn’t good enough according to them but that was my best and if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t do it differently.

Do everything to the best of your ability, read hard, love hard, work hard that way you won’t regret if things don’t turn out the way you expected them to. You will remember the blood and sweat you put into it, but don’t give yourself a chance to regret or feel worthless.

Honestly you couldn’t have done it better, you couldn’t have worked any harder, and you couldn’t have been a better partner.

I don’t regret failing my job test, nor do i feel bad about it because I gave it my all.

So before you feel bad, worthless or think that you have bad luck .Ask yourself this: Did you do your best to save the situation? If yes, then there is nothing more you could have done, you are not superman or God. It was out of your control. Don’t beat yourself up.

Most of your fears never come to Pass

I am a true daughter of my mother. She worries a lot about anything and everything. The present the future, even the past sometimes.

Before I got a job she was worried that I wouldn’t get one, and now that I have one she is worried that one day I will lose it (God forbid) but as much as bad things are bound to happen good things will happen too(like getting a much better job, or starting my own business).

She always sees the bad in a situation. And when asked why she claims that by expecting the bad, she will get to enjoy the experience of being surprised by the good .I love her to death but I just don’t think that, this is the best approach to life.

Bad times outweigh the good times but if we sit around waiting for the bad times we will never get to enjoy the good times.

The future is uncertain, that’s obvious and that is what makes us worry so much about it. But looking back at all the things I was worried about most of them never came to pass and if they did I totally could handle them without breaking a leg.

Why should we always expect the worst, then put ourselves through the trauma, yet at the end of the day it may or may never come to pass?

The worst thing that can happen to anyone is dying, or so I think. We will all die one day and the worst part of it is that we don’t know when. That however, hasn’t  stopped us from chasing our goals and dreams. We struggle every day to make ends meet yet we are not assured of tomorrow.

My point is , that there is no point in worrying about the future . One thing I discovered is that half the things we worry about or are afraid of never come to pass and if they do no matter how difficult we always come out of it.

Be fair to yourself and your health, don’t worry too much because there is always a way or better yet your fears may never come to pass.

People will always Judge you.

We humans are bound to judge one another, am not an exception.

I try not to because we are all different, we have different tastes, different cultures and that is what makes life and nature beautiful.

They say, you should have worn a different outfit, you should have been more compassionate, you should have taken a different path or you should have been cautious..., yet they have known idea who you are or what you stand for. Neither do they know what you have been through to get to where you are.

The sad truth of the matter is that you cannot control their actions or thoughts about you. You can only choose to react differently. Choose to brush it off because they have no power over your emotions or your life.

There is only one person in control of your emotions and that person is you. Don’t let the actions of other people make you unhappy, don’t let them deprive you of your joy. Every time you get angry, sad or frustrated about someone else’s actions you are giving them the power over your emotions.

Be the best person you can be, be kind, loving and generous but do not let someone else’s opinion define you because they don’t matter ,and neither does their opinion about you.
